Jeddah International Airport new opening in May 2018




King Abdul Aziz International Airport in Jeddah has been criticised for it’s poor facilities will have its new opening and will be starting flights operations in May 2018. This news was announced by the head of the General Authority for Civil Aviation (GACA), Abdul Hakim Al-Tamimi.

He mentioned Air transport is the preferred method for pilgrims of Umrah and Hajj, both from inside and outside the Kingdom. The number of Hajj pilgrims arriving by air in 2017 reached 1,648,906, while the number of Umrah pilgrims arriving by air in 2017 reached 5,664208.

The new Jeddah airport is a big project and once fully operational will contain:

  • 810,000 square metres of terminals
  • 20 counters for the completion of travel procedures
  • 80 self-service counters

It will be able to covering 70 aircrafts at once which are connected to the terminal.

It is also to be noted that Taif International Airport will support the King Abdul Aziz International Airport in Jeddah. The project for the Taif International Airport has been outsourced to the private sector and is expected to open in December 2020.

It is hoped that these airports will provide further convenience and ease for pilgrims which visit for Hajj and Umrah.
